28. Pusha T - Fear of God

I've always been a fan of Pusha T from his work with his brother, Malice, as one half of hip-hop duo 'The Clipse' so I was always going to look favorably at this 'street album' and there are some great moments on this and there are some down points too.

Pusha has always been able to rap about cocaine better than anyone out there. Out of 13 songs on this album, 13 of the songs are about either selling cocaine, being rich from selling cocaine, having regrets about being a cocaine dealer or cooking cocaine in some project kitchen. An MC with less ability would make this particular subject matter really tiresome, but Pusha's rhyme schemes and charisma make up for the limited subject matter.

On the production side, the track 'My God' has got a brilliant beat that builds and builds intensity throughout, 'I still wanna rock' featuring the number 2 'coke rapper' Rick Ross and Ab-Liva is a banger and 'Alone in Vegas' is a regret filled fable with a great minimalist beat.

The downsides are, the pop-oriented 'Feeling myself', which add's nothing the overall project and has a beat from 'Tha Bizness' which sounds exactly like everything else they've ever done and the dreadful 'Open your eyes which has a terrible Queen sample.

Overall, it's not a bad solo debut, but I am hoping that his full album is better.

Until tomorrow.....
